MillBuilt is the brainchild of Daniel and Jamie Pobjoy.

Respected builders, the two brothers are well known for their work in helping rebuild the fire-ravaged Kinglake area, as well as for designing and crafting homes of superior quality throughout the state. Together, they have pioneered and perfected a better way to build. That ‘better way’ is based on the core belief that bigger isn’t necessarily better, that sustainability can live beautifully with style – and that affordability need never compromise quality.

The result is a range of modular homes built to a whole new level. Stronger and safer. With quality finishings everywhere you look and touch. And designed with due regard for sustainability, from the very beginning of the building process right through to on-site construction and beyond.

Homes, totally at ease with natural surrounds – eco-friendly, spatially ingenious – ideal as haven, workplace or weekend escape. Homes created true to the belief that you can have more precious time for living. And did we say ‘affordable?’ (Yes, first home buyers, we are talking to you). Indeed, if you find yourself in the who are you? section of this website, we’re talking directly to you – and to the important things you most want and need in your next home.

History

For fifteen years (and counting) Daniel and Jamie Pobjoy have followed their own unique pathway.  Early in their careers, for example, they were among a very few specializing in ‘post and beam’ construction – a technique that dates back to the 1600’s. Use of recycled materials was a central theme in their work, as the brothers insisted on sourcing recycled reds and clinkers, recycled flooring, wharf timbers and more in building unique, high-end, one-off homes for discerning buyers. Today, as co-founders of MillBuilt, the brothers are pioneering more efficient, more sustainable ways to build. The result is a range of affordable homes that are not only of superior quality but environmentally attuned and a pleasure to live in.

Our ‘Home’

MilleBuilt’s factory ‘home’ is located in the ancient Toolangi National Forest, just minutes from the historic Victorian town of Healesville. Formerly the site of a timber mill employing up to 70 workers, the spacious facility can accommodate the building of three MillBuilt modules simultaneously, while providing virtually limitless storage.

Building since boyhood

For Daniel and Jamie Pobjoy, the path to their present careers began early in boyhood, with hands-on experience working on the building of what would become the Pobjoy family home..  “We lived in a modified barn while the house was being built,” recalls Jamie. The house itself was a family project, the brainchild of the boys’ parents, built slowly, painstakingly and lovingly over several years.

Over time, that experience helped forge not only a strong bond between the brothers, but an affinity with tools and a deep understanding of building processes and principles.

Daniel

“I knew there was something better.”

The oldest of the two, Daniel Pobjoy is driven by finding better ways to build – and in so doing, creating better homes and more rewarding lifestyles for people.

More specifically, Daniel’s primary aim is to continually evolve MillBuilt’s methods and use of material, with the ultimate goal of creating buildings that have very low environmental impact now and into the future. Buildings true to the beliefs that ‘bigger is not necessarily better’ – and that a well-designed home can actually liberate its owners, giving them more time for life’s more important things. Buildings that will stand the test of time.

Jamie

“I’ve never been prouder.”

Those who know will happily tell you that Jamie Pobjoy is both incredibly good with his hands and naturally mechanically minded. Go deeper and you’ll find a practical thinker with a keen eye for detail and an innate ability to work through problems as they arrive. He brings 12 year’s experience as a carpenter plus certifications as a welder and excavator operator to his role at MillBuilt. Heavily involved in the day to day running of the factory, Jamie also oversees site works to ensure a smooth and efficient build.

Outside of work, Jamie is a keen snowboarder and has travelled the world chasing the snow. He is an avid car and motor collector with an ever-expanding shed that will never be large enough. Most of all, he loves his family and friends and appreciates nothing more than a quality meal and a glass of beer in good company.
